UTAH COUNTY — One home sustained damage, two homes were encircled by debris, and a street was partially covered Thursday after heavy rain led to a mudslide in Woodland Hills Thursday night, and authorities are asking that another six to eight homes be evacuated in the area as a precaution.

Lt. Tom Hodgson of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX 13 News that heavy thunderstorms in the area caused a mudslide that partially covered Skylake Drive in Woodland Hills.

One home was damaged by the slide, and Hodgson said the residents of that home were evacuated. Two other homes were encircled by debris but were not damaged. Officials requested evacuations as a precaution at six to eight homes that weren’t damaged by the slide.

Hodgson said crews are on scene working to clean up the mess, and as of about 9:40 p.m. he said the diminishing storm activity leads them to believe the slide will not cause further issues in the area beyond the damage already done.

FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
